golds celebrates its 10th anniversery
In spring 2000 golds hair salon at 12 Gammon Walk, Barnstaple opened its doors
for the first time. The business started with 5 stylists and 1 beauty therapist and with an ambition to become the leading salon in Barnstaple.
The business, which focused on quality, customer service and price, quickly became established and gradually expanded. After 3 years golds moved its beauty services to a new salon at 23 Pilton Street and expanded the Barnstaple salon to accommodate 15 stylist stations. After another few years the Barnstaple salon was re-furbished and the number of stations increased to 18. Meanwhile the beauty salon increased its staff to 2 therapists. In September 2008 golds opened a new salon in Ilfracombe with a staff of 7.
Many of golds clients have been with us over the ten years and many more became clients over the years. We thank all of our clients for their custom and look forward to welcoming new clients in the years ahead. The salons are focused on quality and customer service. All of our stylists and beauty therapists are fully qualified and are given additional training every year. We have 5 apprentices every year and train them to become our stylists of the future.
Golds was last year awarded "Training Salon of the Year" by Petroc College and this year four staff won training awards from the college. We will continue to put a high emphasis on training staff to an extremely high level. Customer serviced is all important and we try to ensure that all clients enjoy their visits to golds and walk out with a great hair style or beauty treatment. We are not the priciest salon in town nor are the cheapest. We aim to give a top class service at a reasonable price.
With further expansion in the pipeline, golds has high hopes that the next 10 years will see the business develop further by providing an even better service to our clients.
London Marathon
Rachel successfully ran the London Marathon on 25th April. Kerry (who could not run because of an injury) went to London with Rachel to give her moral support and to take photos.
Rachel finished the marathon in 4hrs 1 minute, she was in the first third (11437th out of 36000+) of runners to finish. She was the 2111th lady to finish which again was a great achievement.
Congratulations and 'well done' to Rachel who ran to raise money for Calvert Trust Exmoor (a North Devon charity which provides activity based holidays for people with disabilities). The final tally is not yet in but she has raised around £2000. Fantastic. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored her and Kerry.
Here are a few photos from the big day.

Kerry is having to withdraw from running in the London Marathon due to injury. During training she damaged her Achilles tendon and her physiotherapist has told her she cannot run. Kerry is disappointed but philosophical about this. Rachel will now run the marathon alone but with many supporters in the wings.

Rachel and Kerry in training.
Calvert Trust Exmoor is a charity based at Wistlandpound Reservoir in North Devon, which provides activity based holidays for people with disabilities. People of all ages and with a variety of physical or mental disabilities visit the Centre and are encouraged and helped to climb, swim, sail, canoe, ride a horse, absail, and pa variety of other activities. They learn to do things they thought were impossible for them and to gain a new level of independence. Their families and carers also participate in all the activities.
This charity needs funds to keep on improving it’s facilities and to provide subsidised holidays for the less well-off.
Kerry Whitefield (Deputy MD) and Rachel Higgs (Receptionist and Cash Manager) at golds have visited the Calvert Trust Centre at Wistlandpound and have agreed to run the marathon to raise funds for the charity.
Kerry and Rachel are photographed here running in their ‘golds’ catsuits and we are still working on getting them to run the marathon in these !!
